Developing our bodily and physical skills...
|
Many of us are good at learning by doing, and by challenging ourselves physically. We use these skills to do important physical jobs like gardening, but we also use them to perform dance and take part in sport. Our talented children challenge themselves to improve their performances, and identify what they need to achieve. They often develop excellent team working skills too and enjoy coaching others. |
Cluster Cross Country

The team before the race
Boys and girls from Year 3 upwards took part in the school cluster group cross country race held at Boroughbridge High School. Out of at least eight local schools, the Years 3 and 4 ran a 700 metre course while the older children ran 900 metres. All our runners finished in the top half of a 50 very strong field and one of our team even won their event, pipping their closest rival in a final sprint to the line. There were lots of other noticeable performances to celebrate including a trainer lost at the very first bend. However, its owner still managed to finish the race well up the field!
Skipping Day

Every child in school recently took part in our skipping day, we had a special visitor come into school to teach each of the classes different skipping techniques and tricks. The younger children focussed on basic skipping games, while the older pupils learnt Double Dutch, group skipping and about how boxers use skipping to train! At the end of the day we held an assembly so each class could demonstrate what they’d learnt. Many pupils are now skipping at playtimes and teaching each other different skills!
Kirk Hammerton KS2 Football Tournament

In May, Great Ouseburn School entered a team into the annual Kirk Hammerton Tournament. A team of 8 children went along and all were able to take part in at least one match. Our goalie was superb, making some great saves and we were very unlucky not to score on a number of occasions.
All the children had a fantastic afternoon and we look forward to doing even better next year!
