Friends Of Great Ouseburn School

Welcome to the wonderful

world of F.O.G.O.S.!!

What is F.O.G.O.S.?

It's a fundraising committee made up of parents and guardians of children from the school.

Aims of F.O.G.O.S.

Our focus is primarily fundraising. However, some events are organised just for fun and also to strengthen the school community as a whole. Fun plays a big part in everything we do.

The Committee

The Committee is currently made up of mums and two dads, but we welcome anyone who wishes to join at any time!  We hold Committee meetings at a member's house or the local pub! However, our Annual General Meeting is held in school in September.  In addition to our committee, we have a helpers' list which is made up of parents who perhaps do not have time to attend the meetings and organise events, but who are keen to share ideas and help out on the day.

The  http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/fogos initiative has currently raised a staggering £1900 in less than 3 years.

How are the funds spent?

To date, we have managed to purchase interactive smartboards, computers, a wooden playhouse, plants, planters, raised vegetable beds, digital cameras and camcorders, a whole school spelling scheme and much more! We also run after school football training sessions with a qualified coach from York City in the Community, which have proven to be very popular.

What else do F.O.G.O.S. do?

Lots! We like to encourage socialising amongst the parents and have a social event every couple of months at the local pub.  A Newsletter is also produced regularly to keep all parents up to date with F.O.G.O.S. activities.

Events

With an almost entirely new committee in over the past 2 years there have been lots of ideas for new events, a village Halloween procession, jumble sale and jig ‘n’ pig barn dance being amongst them.  All proved to be very popular.  Other fundraising ideas included using the easyfundraising website, distributing Yellow Moon catalogues, Christmas Fayre, Village Spring Festival and Annual Coffee Morning, meaning that we have successfully added more than £8000 to the school funds over the past 2 years.

Sometimes however, we run out of new and fresh ideas, if you have been to an event elsewhere which you really enjoyed, please tell us all about it.  If you have any ideas for different fundraising ideas, we would love to hear from you!

Previous Events

Jumble Sale 2011

Our annual jumble was once again a huge success with a staggering £1200 raised.  We had almost 200 people through the doors and the village was teeming with cars throughout the day.  I huge thank you to everyone who kindly donated jumble to us, without you we could not hope to raise such fantastic amounts year on year.

As always, leftover clothes, bags and shoes are donated to the Great North Air Ambulance who raise funds by selling the goods on.  This also generates an addional donation to the school.

Halloween Fright Night 2010

This annual event is always a favourite among the children in the village - and this year's event was no exception.  In addtion to all the fun we managed to raise £275 as well.

Great Ouseburn Beer Festival 2010

FOGOS, who contributed towards bar staffing during the day and evening for this event, received a fantastic £700 from the organisers of this successful and popular festival.  We would like to say a special thank you to them for their generous donation, which we are extremely grateful for.

Coffee Morning Sept 2010

Raised £300 - many thanks to all who came to visit us or helped in any way

Spring Festival 2010
On behalf of all the committee members we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the day.  From the parents who baked a staggering amount of fabulous cakes to the children who performed in the concert and also to the teachers who braved the weather to help out on various stalls throughout the day.  The Over £2000 has been donated to the school for this event.

Christmas Fayre 2009

Held at the end of December, the village hall was ablaze with colour and christmas spirit as parents, teachers and children came together to host a wonderful Christmas Fayre, with a visit from Santa.
