Great Ouseburn Primary School is on its way to becoming a Fairtrade School!

What is fairtrade?

Fairtrade makes sure that farmers and producer organisations get a fair and stable price for their products to help them support their families and invest in a better future.

The Five Goals in becoming a Fairtrade School

1. Set up a Fairtrade School Steering Group

2. Write and adopt a whole school Fairtrade policy

3. Committ to selling, promoting and using Fairtrade products

4. Learn about Fairtrade issues

5. Promote and take action for Fairtrade both in school and the wider community.

Our journey, so far, in becoming a Fairtrade School

We used concept maps to show what we know about Fairtrade

We tasted and rated many Fairtrade products (yum!)

We researched where Fairtrade products come from and found out a bit more about these places

go to http://www.fairtrade.org.uk to find out more about Fairtrade

We designed our own Fairtrade recipes and did some baking (double yum!)

We invited guest speakers to come in and tell us about the different roles required in a steering group

We wrote letters to parents and our local community to ask if they would like to  join our School's Fairtrade Steering Group

We held a competition for our school community to design a Fairtrade School: logo, name and tagline - take a look at the winning design...

We ran a stall selling an array of Fairtrade products, after school, for three afternoons.  The event was a huge success and the children fully enjoyed it (as well as demonstrating some savvy business skills!).

Please visit this page again in the future and see how our journey continues...
