Developing our visual and spatial skills...

These skills help us to learn and communicate with others through images.  We show our ideas as mind maps and pictures. We use photographs and video.  Our artists learn from the work of artists from different cultures and times, and use many different media.  Talented children learn to use similar techniques to other artists, but then adapt the style to their own.

Year 6 children have been working on self portraiture, alongside other Year 6 pupils in our locality.  Following a visit to Beningbrough Hall to learn about the portraits there, they opened their sketch books and experimented with different art media and styles.

They then chose to use mixed media of pencil and watercolours to produce self portraits for public display at Beningbrough Hall in June.  This required them to use both these media to catch an essence of their personality as well as making them life like.

Red Kites ‘working wall’ filled with their topic work on the Yorkshire Dales

The Red Kites class (year2/3) have been looking at the area in which we live and studying the Yorkshire Dales. They researched in depth on the computers the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales and then wrote poems, stories and guide attractions using the information they’d found. Their topic work also included making some fantastic collages and a ‘working’ wall on which they presented their work! This term's homework project is to create a presentation folder about a specific area of the dales that interests each pupil, and the class will soon be taking a trip to Wensleydale Creamery.
